Earlier this year we had the privilege of being referred to a family who has three growing girls and basement that needed some love so they could call it "home".  It was so much fun to watch as this outdated basement turned into a perfect space for two of these lovely ladies, complete with:

• A giant mirror to practice their budding ballet skills 
• The addition of a second bedroom
• Custom shower and tile flooring in the bathroom
• A bathroom layout that provides privacy for the shower and toilet area and a double vanity
• A jack and jill style walk in closet for all their fun clothes
• LVT flooring throughout the bedrooms/main area
• New egress windows to keep them safe and sound and to add more light to the space
• New canned lighting complete with motion sensors
  
• And more that I'm sure I'm forgetting! 

It was quite the transformation and we hope they enjoy their new space for years and years to come!

Have you ever started a big home improvement project only to realize that completing it along with your full time job and family obligations means you might live in a construction zone until retirement?  One of our recent clients did an awesome renovation of their home with the help of his brothers.  They took down a wall, relocated cabinets in the kitchen, laid down a wood floor and lots of other improvements, but then his brothers went home and life started happening again leaving them with an almost finished project.

That's where Tom came in.  He put the finishing touches on that awesome DIY project by putting up trim, hanging back up the microwave, completing a backsplash and replacing some old ugly windows with new fresh ones.  And he had a great time doing it!  

Here's a picture of the "pee" windows as they were so affectionately referred to before they met their recent demise and were replaced with new windows that. well, aren't yellow.  Look at all that lovely sunlight!  What were the 70's thinking trying to keep it out?

Tom really enjoyed helping Susan create a custom "Book Nook".  She loves to read and wanted a cozy space to enjoy her books and wanted to create an inviting space in her upstairs loft.  The project that transpired was a lot of fun!

And here is how Susan's version turned out.  She picked Victory Blue from Lowes and the cushion fabric is Parrot/Navy from JoAnn fabrics. She ordered the bookcases independently, and Tom custom built the cubbies they rest on, rerouted the HVAC and built it all in to make it a custom piece using crown molding and trim and paint.  He also added upholsterer to his repertoire by making the cushion and we added in the fun "Book Nook" letters from Hobby Lobby.  We love how it turned out and Susan did too.  :)

I just want to say "hi there!!"  It's been a while...I've been getting bigger and bigger and more and more tired as the third trimester of this pregnancy slogs on, so the blogging has just taken a back seat to - well - sleep, I guess.  I'm napping as much as possible before baby #2 makes her appearance any day now.  :)  

Tom has been up to some really fun stuff in the last couple months that I want to make sure everyone knows about though.  On a scale of fun to super fun, he's done a deck tear out, is in the process of two bathroom remodels, created a custom "book nook" and made his wife a new table out of two pieces of maple wood that literally looked like the tree they were cut from before their miraculous transformation.  He's also done several smaller handyman jobs including fixing lots of leaky plumbing, and fixed lots of stuff for rental property owners.

It's always a joy to watch him create something out of nothing.  In fact, that's what he loves to do.  His spread-sheet-filled, 45-minute communte each way, soul sucking desk job left him so tired and unhappy at the end of most days. Now almost all his jobs are right here in Broomfield and comes home - after working super hard I might add - with lots of energy and joy.  He really loves his new gig and so do I because it's a lot more fun to have a happy husband than an crabby one.  

​The transition to small business ownership has been a wild ride, but it's been a good ride and we are so grateful for our clients and all the projects they welcomed us into their homes to complete in 2016.

Tom is going to take a couple weeks off in January to help me with the babe, but we look forward to many more great things in 2017!  

With another tiny little roommate on the way in December, I'm starting to get into full on nesting mode around here.  Whatever isn't nailed down might get donated to the Goodwill and we are in the process of turning our home office into our one year old's new room to make way for his little sister.  One thing that had to be fixed was the closet.  it was tiny and only had one shelf with a dowel rod - not super helpful for a one year old room.  Handyman husband came up with a great plan to use an old chest of drawers we had to create built in drawers and melamine to create several more shelves in the top of the closet for Sweet Pete.  I'm super excited about the final product and can't wait to fill it up with tiny toddler items.  It will be so cute and functional.  Best of all, Peter will be able to reach his drawers and hanging clothes, so when he starts dressing himself he will be able to, well, dress himself.  Win/win for Mama!

It's raining! In August! And it's only 60° outside! And my super awesome husband is making custom picnic tables for the Bluegrass patio in Old Town Arvada. I'm lookin forward to sitting on these babies sometime soon and enjoying some music and yummy food!
