One of those days...

Do you ever have one those days where everything feels hard; sort of like trying to ride a bicycle with three other storm troopers?

I'm totally having a day like that.

The small business owner hustle/full time mom to two tiny people "job" can be wearying after a while.  And confusing like trying to fit into a chair that's too small.

Questions roll around in my mind from dawn to dusk and during ridiculously unproductive hours in between...
  • Where do we find more clients who feel like family?
  • When will my toddler potty train already?
  • How do we effectively communicate our uniqueness, our talents, our fun-ness, our general awesomeness & humility (clearly)?
  • Why are taxes so high? And insurance?  And materials?  And trucks and tools and all the things?
  • Why does my one year old like to communicate via screaming so frequently?
  • Why does HGTV make home renovations look easy and inexpensive? (insert frustrated face here...)
  • Why do so many contractors undersell themselves?
  • Why do so many "contractors" (crooks) take advantage of people?  How do they live with themselves?
  • When will Tom & I get a night out together?
  • What are we going to have for dinner tonight?
  • .... and on and on and on into perpetuity

Over 80% of contractors fail by their 5th year in business. That means if you're working with a contractor today, in five years odds are 4 to 1 that his/her business will no longer exist.

And I can see why.  If you undervalue yourself, you're toast. If you don't watch your expenses or line up enough work...toast.  If you don't treat customers well...super, super toast.

This endeavor certainly isn't for the faint of heart.  But I know it's worth it.  It's worth it for our family and for the families we serve.

It's worth it to bring our gifts and talents into this marketplace to positively affect it. It's worth it to raise kids to be awesome adults. It's all worth it!

My resolution today is to focus on the one thing - the one thing that will help us to get to where we want to go instead of being bogged down by all the questionthings running around inside my busy little brain.

What's yours?

Hugs to you, business people of America!  Whether you work for a large company or are a solopreneur, if you're doing good work, you're improving our world!

Hang in there & keep smiling!!

Love,
Brook
