Have you ever started a big home improvement project only to realize that completing it along with your full time job and family obligations means you might live in a construction zone until retirement? One of our recent clients did an awesome renovation of their home with the help of his brothers. They took down a wall, relocated cabinets in the kitchen, laid down a wood floor and lots of other improvements, but then his brothers went home and life started happening again leaving them with an almost finished project.
That's where Tom came in. He put the finishing touches on that awesome DIY project by putting up trim, hanging back up the microwave, completing a backsplash and replacing some old ugly windows with new fresh ones. And he had a great time doing it! Here's a picture of the "pee" windows as they were so affectionately referred to before they met their recent demise and were replaced with new windows that. well, aren't yellow. Look at all that lovely sunlight! What were the 70's thinking trying to keep it out? Thank you Peter & Yvonne for your business. We hope you love your finished project!

Instead of being left with a beautifully finished basement, the contractor he selected left him with an incomplete project, a drained bank account and many sleepless nights worrying about how he would ever fix the situation. Tom was able to come in after the fact and complete the project and hopefully redeem a frustrating and stressful situation, but we still felt terrible that he had such a bad experience with the first guy he hired to do the job. .
Here are five important things we learned from our client's bummer of an experience:
Finding a contractor who does quality work and thoroughly communicates during the process might be tough but it's worth it.
