Owner & General Contractor
I have been in the construction world since I was a kid. My dad used to load my brother and I in the truck and take us with him while he did all kinds of projects around my Pennsylvania hometown.
My 15-year "real world" experience includes a corporate career as a project manager and several construction related jobs before owning Bunn & Sons. In recent years, I've taken a real liking to remodeling beautiful bathrooms, kitchens and basements!
In our spare time, Brook and I love living in Broomfield, escaping to the mountains when we can and are trying to soak up every minute with our very busy, growing-up-too-fast, tiny humans - Peter, Annabelle, Patrick & Zelie.
Fun facts: Tom is a Marine Corps veteran and a Geophysicist by education.
Owner & Back Office Guru
These days I handle all our back office work from typing up this very description on our website to making sure our books are in line to helping Tom come up with our long term vision. We love what we do and I'm grateful to be a part of it!
Before owning Bunn & Sons, I was a "corporate American" mostly in Franchise Consulting. I would never trade those years of learning everything from how to be an effective public speaker to how to grow a franchised business to how to navigate difficult conversations, but I am thrilled to be on the other side now as a business owner myself. Every day is new, every client becomes a part of our story and it's really fun to write that story every day.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, taking walks, cooking yummy food and laughing with family and friends.
I love approaching interior design from both right and left-brain perspectives, considering structure and function as well as the overall visual effect of the space. I studied psychology and biology in undergrad, but I was also that nerd that wanted to minor in art and math. I loved it all! After careers in medical social work, missionary work and office management, I finally made the leap to get my Interior Design Degree. This totally makes sense given my childhood love for shows like Home Time, This Old House, and New Yankee Workshop over Saturday morning cartoons.
Many people confuse interior design with interior decorating, which provides an opportunity to educate that design involves much more than just choosing paint colors and making things pretty. I use the analogy that decorating is the frosting, but it’s important to choose all the ingredients in the cake, and then bake the cake before frosting it. The cake involves listening and understanding client needs and lifestyle preferences, then arranging the space accordingly, considering lighting and architecture. Finally adding layers of materials and selections help to develop that wow factor.
In my free time, I spend a lot of time with friends and serving my church, as well as cooking, playing ping pong, working on creative projects, and taking care of my demanding 3 pound Chihuahua, Giorgio.
I’ve always liked working with my hands; when I was younger I would help my dad and uncles if they were working around the house. I’ve always been intrigued by how things go together, so when I started construction it transferred to that. There are few things as rewarding as seeing the result of hard work pay off, and seeing how appreciative the homeowner is with the progress. Remodeling isn't like new construction where you rarely see the end result. I get to see the progress at each stage of the job, and then the reaction of the homeowner as they take the space back. There’s never a dull moment in remodeling, it keeps me on my toes and makes me think on the fly.
Working for a smaller company is a nice change of pace compared to what I’m used to coming from a bigger company. It’s more organized and everyone is on the same page; there’s no running around between various people to get an answer. Most importantly, the quality of the end product is excellent and all the customers are ecstatic with what we build them.
In my free time I like to go to local coffee shops, explore new places, and hang out with my cats.
